The Federation of Young Socialist Italians adopted an order of the day during the course of the 4th Congress, held in Tivoli on the 8th and 9th of July. The Esperanto order of the day asked the abolition of the English language as the first and only foreign language worth learning in Italy, thanks to the recent School Reform of the Berlusconi goverment. The law suggested at the end of the last legislation, on itiative of the "Esperanto" Radical Association’s policy, in order to introduce the teaching of the Esperanto language among the other second languages, and to promoted an experimental use of Esperanto on a European scale.
In his speech during the Congress, ERA’s Vice-Secretary, Lapo Orlando, after having thanked the FGS and his superiors for thei active collaborations, remembered, as, thanks to the Translational Radical Party’s work, and having already adapted an Esperanto campaign for years now, through their authoritarian exponents, Marco Pannella, Marco Cappato, the current MEPs, and Emma Bonino, Minister for European Affairs, ad assuming that the important political intiatives on the Esperantist front.
Similarily, the Vice-Secretary backed up the ERA’s actions and succeses in the Italian and transnational field, starting from the initiatives and the battles lead and won by the United Nations or UNESCO. The moment when the Order of the Day was approved, the newly-elected Secretary of the FGS, Francesco Mosco, pre-announced his intention to load a part of the Congress material online in Esperanto.
"It’s yet another important element of the political passage, after the 2002 Green Europeans, the Social European Forum held in Florence 2003 and that held by the French radicals at the Université d’Eté in 2003 and 2004 (not to mention the Radical Congress in Sofia in 1992). ERA has given this to the this to the Esperanto world, on the brink of the Universal Congress within Italian territory. UEA should try, if it is strong enough to do so, to not allow the umpteenth opportunity to go by, for their sake and that of the whole komunumo."
