The National Youth Forum, congregated in Rome from the 13th to the 15th of April 2007, approved today’s priority, that is to set up a European Language Conference, proposed by the delegate of the Socialist Youth Federation, together with the "Eperanto" Association in the name of Linguistic Democracy. One of the principles that guides Europe is the unification of variety within the continent, condensed in to a single motto: "all different, all equal." Despite these positive mottos, discrimination within the European Union, especially based on the language, is still extremely high.
As a consequence, the Order of the Day was approved.
The National Youth Forum:
Considering the united variety of the fundamental principles in the European Union, with the motto "all different, all equal;"
Considering that, according to Art.2 if the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, "everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status;"
Underlining the fact that the necessity to fight and eliminate discimination among citizens, especially the younger European generation, for what concerns the access to education, information, communication and the work world, often based on ethnic and language issues;
Considering that, to gain equality in all field, the European institutions must supply communicative tools which are more innovative, easily accessible, with the same preliminary conditions;
Considering that a lingustic policy should be equal and efficient, both within the European state and within the enitre Union, representeed by a condition which is essential for the evolution of the European institution, in a way that the enforcement of "European identity" that is hardly udnerstood today and hardly heard by citizens, especially the youth, as seen by research results of their active participation in politics, ask and support the urgent meeting for a European Conference on languages, which, together with the participation of all of Europe’s scholars, citizens and politcal activists which will cause the progressive elimination of discrimination among citizens and nations of a different language, considering, without prejudice, that all the possible solutions of the problem, and choosing, based on the research results and on the evaluations made, which can be functional and convenient from a politcal and economical point of view.
