RADICAL PAGANO AGAINST THE ENGLISH-ONLY POLICY IN LUCCA: APPEALS TO THE TAR

Against the "English-only" idea that emerges for the administration Regulations concerning food and drinks of the Lucca community, the "Esperanto" Radical Association appeals to the Tuscan TAR (Regional Tribunal Administration) to eliminate the section which requires that the entire staff that has been hired by the historical center is required to "know the English language."

"A public funding such as this one," said Pagano, Secretary of the ERA, "contradicts the principles of economic and entrepreneurial freedom, because it forces businesses to favour a certain target group instead of another, as if certain restaurants are made only to attract English, Spanish, German and French-speaking tourists," he added, "and to higher staff that only speaks those four languages, and not others, not to mention that fact that the business will have to acquire a larger floating charge as staff that is required to speak more than one language require greater contract qualifications."
He concluded with: "If we keep up this attitude, more and more Italians will be job-less, unless they know the Queen’s language. It’s curious that this regime doesn’t realise that, as well as selling cars, fashion and cuisin, it could and should sell its language, Italian, as well, instead of pursuing the goal of being marginalized in order to make space for the colonial language of the world."
