School, teacher cut-downs: Pagano, Radicals/ERA – Demonstration on May 28: “MiUR offers only dismissal and precarious work”
Statement by Giorgio Pagano – Radicals/ERA
«We’ll be in the streets on may 28 to go against the MiUR’s linguistic policies: behind the english language is where jobloss and precarious works hides.» Statement by Giorgio Pagano, Secretary of the “Esperanto” Radical Association.
«On the the 28th of May, at 15.00, at our headquarters, via di Torre Argentina 76, we and the teachers will meet, and we will march to the Ministry’s main office. Gelmini has created a propoganda policy, justifying the English imposition at the expense of the Italian language and any other second language, promoting the idea that the “language tax” is the passport that are children need to access the business world and to the future, following a medieval logic.»
Pagano continued: “Now we have to face the harsh reality: the Ministry has cut 78% of the english teachers, followed by an exclamation of shock from 376 Lazio institutes. The same thing happened when the obligation of a B2 certificate in English was released, a certificate required to teach any subject, language or otherwise. This is an obligation that has fallbacks especially on precarious employees, who will be forced to pay for private courses out of their own pockets as a formation period won’t be included. Let’s prove to Gelmini that teachers do not wish to be tricked with decoys. Come demonstrate with us in front of the Ministry on May 28.”
