Statement by Giorgio Pagano – Radicals/ERA
"In light of the events in Maghreb, as Radicals we have a responsibility to give new shape and new contents for non-violence," says Giorgio Pagano, Secretary of the Radical Association "Esperanto."
" We can and should encourage our youngsters to communicate with dictatorship countries, distributing information and exportating democracy, and not with war, co-operating with the European countries which have their own Civil Service and based on the best of the peaceful European experiences. The shock wave coming from Tunisia that is sweeping across the arab world is peaceful and non-violent in its essence, far from the religious extremists and town-square rioters: it is the regimes that are reacting with violence and it is our duty to help the citizens that are risking their lives to escape from the Western dictatorships that have been secured for too long," he continues.
" The Italian volunteers of the European countries can support the middle-eastern people's human rights requests using modern technology to communicate: if Europe doesn't play its key role in a critical historical moment such as this one, a period that is hastily changing the global enviroment, there is the risk that the new anti-democratics could replace the very ones that are collapsing today. The Radical Association "Esperanto" invites all Radicals and other political forces to collaborate based on ideas that can be tie in to the "Non-Violent European" Convention that was announced in November, and I feel it is indispensable to accelerate the untying of this dramatic but hopeful knot in history."
