Gelmini withdraws enchanced English: A victory for linguistic democracy against its colonizers
Statement by Giorgio Pagano, Secretary of the Esperanto Radical Association.
" The religion of the three I's (Imposizione Indebita dell'Inglese – that is, the Wrongful English Imposition): a year of English's elimination from the debut certifies ERA's victory which, as well as foreign language subjects, have appealed to the Regional Administrative Tribunal (RAT)," states Giorgio Pagano, Secretary of the Esperanto Radical Association.
"It's an emblematic even that the comma which would have ensured the intensive English study in Italy has dissapeard, and the goverment's credibility has also dissapeard as well as its attempt to try and defeat multilinguism in school. Bearing in mind the number of teachers who teach a second language, we are very glad to celebrate this victory," Pagano continues.
" Let's not forget that, in the EU, the treaties sanction multilinguistic diversity and not monolinguism which rises at all costs in the Italian education system: fortunately, the scarce advertising capacity being carried out, the capacity which characterizes this authoritarian class has caused us to take refuge in what will become yet another, intolerable infringement of the Lisbon Treaty. ERA would like to thank all the foreign language (other than English) teachers to not have given in to the linguistic coup, which has failed miserably, at least for now, bbut now we must continue against Mendacity Gelmini, who thinks English is a synonym of Foreign Language and that Internationalization means Anglozisation," the Secretary concludes.
