EU, Pagano (Radicals): Enough already with an English-only Europe!
Statement by Giorgio Pagano – Radicals/ERA
" The EU’s European transmission, EU Hostel, is a clear representation of how the younger generation is submitted to English colonization, against every democratic principle, with the consequental destruction of the linguistic patrimony in the European states: Spanish as if they were Apache, Italians as if they were cheyenne, Hungarians as if they were cherokees and Poles as if they were sioux."
So states Giorgio Pagano, Secretary of the Esperanto Radical Association. " The web seires, transmits the message that’s supposed to represent the European Union’s istitutions, transmits its programs in English, and without subtitles. The road towards European Unification is getting longer, in light of what is happening, we are heading towards a maginalization of the whole continent’s languages, which are constantly being imposed with linguistic imperialsm which leads to the further negation of democratic values, which in Europe will lead to a loss of values which Europe was drafted upon, and it is being drawn on the British Commonwealth’s model instead."
"Our rulers’ collaboration, who favour English at university instead of Italian, our rulers that use "English" as the a synonym of "foreign language," which force Italian teachers to obtain a B2 level in English.. We find their collaboration in EU Hostel, created so that Italians who are not able to innovate democratic linguistic rights, are limited to representing a deteorating reality. If the same series were to be presented in Esperanto, maybe it would have circulated less due to the language cliques that prevent the International Language from spreading, but it would of sent out a different message, a clear and somple message about equal opportunities and not the message that it is more convenient to "become American" instead of being born in Italy," says ERA’s secretary.
